    Director of Communication (Administrator)

    Motion AC2017.01

Amend PCRID Bylaws, Article VI of the bylaws, Meeting of Members, Section 1, Annual Conference by substituting the following new text:

This constitutes 90 days notice of intent to vote via mail referendum.

    CURRENT WORDING

    PROPOSED AMENDMENT

    IF ADOPTED WILL READ

An annual conference shall be held for the purpose of providing an opportunity for professional development of the members, to conduct necessary business of the affiliate chapter, and/or provide a forum for the exchange of information among the members and the general public on/about the profession of interpreting.

Notice of the meeting shall be given to the members no less than 60 days prior to the date scheduled.  A committee shall be appointed by the President to plan the event, and chaired by an individual chosen by a majority vote of the Board.

    1. An annual biennial conference shall be held for the purpose of providing an opportunity for professional development of the members, to conduct necessary business of the affiliate chapter, and/or provide a forum for the exchange of information among the members and the general public on/about the profession of interpreting.

    2. During the non-conference year, an annual business meeting shall be held. Workshops also will be offered by the PCRID Professional Development Committee quarterly throughout the year in lieu of a conference.

    3. Notice of the conference shall be given to the members no less than 60 days prior to the date scheduled.  A committee shall be appointed by the President to plan the event, and chaired by an individual chosen by a majority vote of the Board."

    Proposed by: Bradley Christlieb

Rationale: PCRID is a membership-based association, and having an annual conference taxes its finances and human resources. Changing to a biannual conference would allow more time for planning and draw more participation from membership.

PCRID may have increased amount of funds as they do not have annual expenses for conference planning; thus PCRID will have almost two years to budget and fiscally plan for a biennial conference. By doing the alternates between workshops and conference, PCRID may have a healthy budget to sustain over long terms.

Bylaws Committee Recommendation: The Bylaws Committee recommends that this amendment be adopted.
